The Frugal Traveler goes golfing at Edgefield

My one experience golfing occurred at the pitch and putt course at the McMenamins Edgefield.

I was surprised I actually enjoyed it. Beer helps.

Seems the New York Times’ Frugal Traveler had a similar experience on his recent trip to Portland:

Friday Hall of Records throws its third record sale and dance party.

Like the first two, this one will also be hosted by It’s a Beautiful Pizza (3342 SE Belmont). And once again DJ Standing 8 will be mixing while you enjoy a beer and dig for records (mainly soul, funk, jazz and breaks from the 60s and 70s).

The party is true to the (eventual) store concept: blending records with beer – don’t forget to track Hall of Records’ progress towards this goal at their blog: The Creation of a Record Store.

arthopAnd finally the 10th annual Alberta Art Hop takes place Saturday, 11am-6pm on Alberta.

The 2009 featured artist for 2009 is Thelma Johnson Streat (pdf), and the theme this year is Coming Home.

Check out PDX Pipeline‘s write up for more information: Coming Home: 2009 Alberta Art Hop | May 16

New York Times travels to Frugal Portland

May 8, 2009 by Dave Knows 1 Comment

In the latest installment of the New York Times‘ obsession with our fair city, Matt Gross writes about Frugal Portland.

The Ace Hotel, Broder, and Bunk Sandwiches get mentions, and surprisingly the Acropolis and Ground Kontrol do too.

There’s a video about Portland’s burgeoning foodcart scene that’s worth watching. I do believe I’ve eaten at every food cart shown, and the excellent local blog Food Carts Portland gets a mention.

The article is the culmination of the Frugal Travel Blogger‘s recent visit to Portland, where he requested readers to twitter him recommendations. He got some pretty good tips.
