The Portland Pinball Map iPhone App Giveaway

April 14, 2010 by Dave Knows 14 Comments

Update: The 10th and final free code has been given away. Thanks to all who played!

Portland Pinball Map AppDo you have the Portland Pinball Map App for your iPhone yet? If you live in Portland and play pinball you need this app – it’s slick!

Over 340 pinball machines in over 170 locations in the Portland area (including Vancouver, Washington) are covered.

You can search for machines by location, proximity, or name.

Only interested in places that have four or more machines? Wondering where new machines have shown up recently? The Portland Pinball Map iPhone App can show you.

How would you like a free copy of the app? (Sure, it only costs 99 cents at iTunes, but free is free!)

Well thanks to the ladies of iPhoneSlutz, Dave Knows Portland has 10 iTunes codes to give away, each good for a free copy of the Portland Pinball Map App!

iPhone Slutz

iPhoneSlutz is comprised of three chicks that just love their iPhones and want to share what they think of them. Local PDX.FM hosts, Sabrina Miller, Emily Gibson, and Rose Harding bring you some crazy reviews of some awesome (and not so awesome) iPhone apps, they tell it to you straight with no BS. iPhoneSlutz just recently had the number one iPhone related audio podcast on iTunes and has a global audience, particularly popular in a few European countries and in Australia.

The show airs live on PDX.FM every Wednesday at 3pm and is then archived and available for free download shortly thereafter at the website iPhoneslutz.com, or through iTunes.

(It’s probably best to warn you that the show may not be considered safe for work, or for sheltered children – wear headphones! And another warning: listeners have been known to fall off of treadmills due to laughter, and several listeners have peed their pants – no joke, the gals are funny!)

And lucky for me and you, the iPhoneSlutz heart Dave Knows Portland and wanted to give a little back to the Portland iPhone and pinball communities. Comment on this post. Win some codes. Play pinball. Be happy.

First 10 commenters will receive a free code! (Make sure to enter a valid email address in the appropriate field when you comment, so we can contact you with the code – don’t worry, your address will not be used for anything else.)

And be sure to tune into iPhoneSlutz Wednesdays at 3pm to get the scoop on the latest, greatest (and lamest) new apps!

April 16: Offbeat Belly Dance

April 14, 2010 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

Offbeat Belly DanceEvery third Friday of the month, from 7 to 9pm, the Blue Monk (3341 SE Belmont) hosts the Offbeat Belly Dance collective, a club rocking, good timing, genre-defying gang of badass belly dancers.

And this Friday, April 16th marks Offbeat Belly Dance‘s 2nd anniversary!

My oh, my good citizens! Can it be? Has it really been two long years since we set sail on this fantastic voyage?

Yes! Yes, it apparently has! Two long and glorious years have passed as the plucky folks of Offbeat have plumbed the briny depths of creativity to bring forth wondrous glittering specimens of awesomeness, unexpected fusions of delightfulness and kickassedness, lavish spectacles of the unexpected and the arcane!

Karissa, the Ringleader of Offbeat Belly Dance (and pictured to the right) invites us to make it to the show Friday night to raise a glass to the awesomeness that has been, and be there to witness the awesomeness still to come!

Individually, the members of the Offbeat Belly Dance collective perform at shows throughout the Portland area, but on the 3rd Friday of the month they come together at the Blue Monk to perform in a rollicking belly dance revue. One of the things that makes it offbeat, is that the dancers choose whatever kind of music they like. Karissa tells me this has included traditional Middle Eastern music, zydeco, AC/DC, Strauss, The Pogues, hip hop, jazz, blues, Old Crow Medicine Show, the Spice Girls, and just about everything else.

She also says it’s a goofy, fun show, it’s early (7 to 9), and it’s free (a very good price).

Visit OffbeatBellyDance.com for more information. You can also become a fan on Facebook, and follow the genre-defying, good timing gang of belly dancers in Portland OR, w/Karissa as ringmaster/carnival barker/propagandiston on Twitter at @OffbeatBelly

April 16-18: Filmed by Bike 2010

April 13, 2010 by Dave Knows 2 Comments

Filmed By BikePortland’s Filmed by Bike film festival takes place this Friday through Sunday, April 16-18, at the Clinton Street Theater (2522 SE Clinton).

Filmed by Bike is a film festival of bike-themed independent short movies from around the world. Submissions are limited to eight minutes and must revolve around the central theme of cycling.

Hundreds of international entries are submitted but only an average of 30 make the final cut. Our jury of esteemed judges makes that tough decision.

The festival kicks off Friday night with a street party on Clinton Street in front of the theater from 5:30pm to 11pm. The street party includes a beer garden and entertainment and a raffle (cash only for these!).

Check out the gallery of featured movies, with trailers. The show program is available on the website too. Buy tickets online or at the door.

Local filmmaker Mike Vogel is one of the jurors who selected this years films; here’s a short video he made last year that gives you a taste of the film fest festivities.

Filmed By Bike (Filmed by Mike) from Mike Vogel on Vimeo.

The festival is a fundraiser for the Multnomah County Bike Fair (who’s website hasn’t been updated since 2007, so you can tell they need some help!). But from this Momentum article, looks like the bike fest takes place June 26th, 2010 at Colonel Summers Park (SE 20th and Belmont).

Tuesday Timbers Tidbits (04/13/2010)

April 13, 2010 by Dave Knows 2 Comments

TimbersUnless you’ve been living under a rock, you know the Portland Timbers begin the 2010 season at home this Saturday, April 17th at 7pm. The visitors are the Rochester Rhinos, who started the season last weekend with a draw against Miami FC.

In supporter news, the 107ist now has an elected board. This initial crop of board members will be instrumental in shaping the organization, and their work will continue to make the Portland Timbers fan experience more meaningful than that of a mere customer.

In Timbers news, Bob Kellett writes about The Young Guns at The Woodwork, and looks at whether there’s much possibility any or many of the 2010 Timbers will make the 2011 MLS roster.

At The Offside Timbers Blog, mao gives us a glimpse at a renovated PGE Park. And tells us that the team and fans are ready for the season to begin.

First Kip Kesgard catches up with the Timbers on the Portland Timbers blog at OregonLive. And then he analyzes the 2010 Timbers schedule and coaching, in part 1 of his season preview.

The Oregonian has begun doing a better job of covering the Timbers than in years past (clearly in anticipation of 2011 and MLS). Just this week Anne Saker has written about the Design goal for PGE Park’s MLS future. And Geoffrey C. Arnold examines some ways the MLS is working to attract more global stars.

And finally, a couple items in the self promotion department: Please read the 2010 Portland Timbers Primer, posted yesterday! I think there’s some very good information in there, both for the long time fan and the new. And, for the first time, one of my posts was used as a reference on a Wikipedia article – I’m legit!

April 15: 7th Planet Picture Show presents Welcome to 18

April 12, 2010 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

Welcome to 18Portland’s answer to MST3K, the 7th Planet Picture Show, takes place Thursday, April 15th at Mount Tabor Theater (4811 SE Hawthorne).

Celebrate Tax Day with host Will Radik and guest bon moters Devlyn Swenson (of Savor Portland) and Robert Wagner (of PDX.fm, and especially Portland Sucks).

Some film I’ve never heard of, Welcome to 18, is the object of Thursday’s affection.

This film has all the charm of any other 80’s coming of age film. Okay. So it doesn’t have the charm, but it’s got the hair and bright colors. Not to mention the ridiculous montages and sugary mentality. It’s a bit like an after-school special for older teens. And they don’t forget to throw something in for Daddy. Huh huh huh.

When three good friends, recent high school graduates, find that their summer dude ranch job is more exploitation than vacation, they move to Lake Tahoe to stay at the house of a guest they met at the ranch. From there, they are plunged into the dark underbelly of South Lake Tahoe! Will they come out unscathed?

Show starts at 7pm. Admission is free, but there’s an entirely optional suggested donation of $5. 21 and over only, there’s a bar!
