September 24-25: Portland Juggling Festival and Vaudeville Extravaganza 2010
The 18th Annual Portland Juggling Festival takes place Friday through Sunday, September 24 through 26. Prop manipulation, juggling, and unicycling workshops are just a part of this event held at the Reed College Sports Center (3203 SE Woodstock).
A highlight of the festival is The Portland Juggling & Vaudeville Extravaganza, held on Saturday, September 25th at the Benson High School Auditorium (546 Northeast 12th).
- Doug Sayers: Winner of the 2009 International Jugglers Association Stage Competition, Doug Sayers of whatsup juggling is a high-octane, world-class professional juggler.
- Bronkar Lee: Bronkar offers up a unique, foot-tapping, grin-inducing spectacle for the ears and the eyes. He combines rhythm — body percussion, drumming and vocal percussion (A.K.A. beatboxing) — with highly skilled juggling along with some humor to wash it down.
- Bekka Rose: Inspired by a wide variety of styles and techniques in her time spent in Europe, Bekka Rose has developed her own poetic and fluid style of juggling.
- Bill Robison: Using his rubber-like face, elastic body, and limitless energy, Bill Robison transports audiences to a zany, unpredictable and hilarious world.

The Portland Timbers trained this morning on the Ronaldo Fields at Nike World Headquarters in preparation for Saturday’s Puerto Rico match. The Timbers will be taking the red eye tonight, and as the guys trained they were in a good mood and it was a lighthearted atmosphere. Though the atmosphere seemed easy going, it was not uncommon to see some tough tackles and the players putting it all on the line. Watching practice you get a real sense of the depth of this team and just how good so many of the Timbers are. [more]

Portlanders! Time is Running Out to Behold the Golden Spurtle!
The 17th Annual World Porridge Making Championship takes place on October 10, 2010 in the Scottish Highland village of Carrbridge.
At last year’s championship, Oregonian Matthew Cox, representing Bob’s Red Mill, won the Golden Spurtle for making the world’s best oatmeal!
For the past year the Golden Spurtle has been on display, as I have witnessed, at the Bob’s Red Mill Whole Grain Store in Milwaukie (5000 SE International Way).
But soon, the Golden Spurtle must return to Scotland to be awarded on October 10th to the next winner. Bob’s Red Mill and Matthew Cox are preparing to defend their crown (or win a different one in the Specialty Porridge category!):
Now it’s possible Bob’s Red Mill and Matthew Cox will take home the Golden Spurtle for a second time, but are you willing to take that risk?
