September 13, 2010 by Dave Knows 3 Comments

Hall of RecordsThe official Grand Opening party at Hall of Records (3342 SE Belmont) takes place Saturday, September 18 2010 from 2pm until Midnight!

The celebration features DJs all day, vinyl and gift certificate raffles, food samples, discounts, giveaways and more!

Hall of Records is a boutique vinyl shop, cafe & bar specializing in soul, funk, jazz, latin, hip hop, deep funk and rare groove records. It is a social environment to listen, share and discover new music, with listening stations, open turntables and beer & wine.

Hall of Records already had its soft opening, so stop by before Saturday too. Hours are 11am until 10pm on Sunday and Monday, 11am to 11pm Tuesday through Thursday, and 11am until 1am on Friday and Saturday.

There are specials throughout the week (and every week!):

  • Monday – 1/2 Price Sandwich Nite 6pm until close
  • Tuesday – Pint Nite! $3 local drafts from 6pm until close
  • Wednesday-Friday – Happy Hour 5pm until 7pm – $1 off beer and wine
  • Sunday Funday – Happy Hour all day, plus $4 Gerry’s

Heather and I stopped by Sunday during the Belmont Street Fair and snapped some pictures.

Dameian behind the bar

Dameian is the third partner in this venture – that’s him behind the bar.

Beer and Wine

Lots of good beer and wine available. Not pictured are two of my favorites currently on tap: Natian‘s Destination Honey Red and HUB‘s Organic Lager.

Specials

Make sure to check the specials board when you arrive. [Why yes, that is Moon Dog!]

DJ Booth and records

The DJ booth and record store take up one corner of the space. Browse and listen to records (there are a couple listening stations available) while enjoying your beer – genius!

See you Saturday!

Review: Belmont Street Fair 2010

September 13, 2010 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

The 2010 Belmont Street Fair took place this past Sunday, September 12.

Belmont Street Fair 2010

Once again this year, Heather and I made it out to close-in SE Portland to take it in. At last year’s festival, we had a reserved vendor spot and sold Heather’s paintings. Meanwhile a block away, our friends Justin and Katie set up a vendor booth as well, to sell records under the Hall of Records moniker.

Things have changed this year. No vendor booth for Heather and me – we just enjoyed the fair, and Hall of Records is now a real, brick and mortar, shop and bar and cafe at 3342 SE Belmont!

Hall of Records storefront

Heather and I spent most of our time Sunday at the 2010 Belmont Street Fair enjoying a beer and sandwich at Hall of Records, but we found time too to explore the activities outside – it was a lovely day!

No hippy soap

This amused us.

Gah clowns

This disturbed me (I’m mildly coulrophobic).

Park

Throw some sod on a street – instant park!

Crowd

Nice weather brought out the crowds.

Music

And there was music of course.

Again this year we enjoyed the Belmont Street Fair immensely. I dare say, after the Mississippi Street Fair, this is my favorite. Plenty of things to see, music to listen too, and food options. Plus it’s not too crowded and Hall of Records is a fantastic oasis!

Review: Oregon State Fair 2010

September 12, 2010 by Dave Knows 1 Comment

Oregon State FairOver at Mile73, Heather did a bang up job describing our honeymoon visit to the 2010 Oregon State Fair.

It was my first ever visit to the state fair, and we had a blast. We’ll be back next year for sure.

Really, I don’t have much more to add to what Heather posted, besides a bunch of photos – mostly of cute animals, with pithy comments!

Historic Poultry

I really liked the flag holders.

Pig bed

4-H confuses me.

Llama or Alpaca?

Llama or Alpaca (or ET)?

Mario's Day Job

Mario’s day job.

Fancy Horse

Do you think he went to the Stephenwood Finishing School?

RIP Wonder Cow

*Sniff*

Piggies

Piggies!

Cows

Cows!

Grey bunny

And the bunnies begin . . .

Siamese bunny?

Stretchy Bunny

Stretchy Bunny.

Bunny hat-trick

And finally, the bunny hat-trick!
