Oregon State Fair 2010

Oregon State FairThe 2010 Oregon State Fair extends from Friday, August 27 through September 6, at the Oregon State Fairgrounds in Salem.

Competitions at the fair include 4-H of course, along with categories such as fine art, farm and garden, photography, floral, creative living, and grill offs. Competitions also include horse shows, and exhibits of livestock and the best part: small animals.

Entertainment includes carnival rides and magic shows, animal shows, and five stages of music, including.

Food is provided by 75 food booths and stands, with all the traditional fair goodies like curly fries, corn dogs, snow cones, cotton candy, etc. Rogue Brewery is sponsoring a Roof Top Pub, where I will probably spend much of my time at the fair, and there’s also a Wine Cellar and Patio.

Amazingly, I have never attended the state fair, but we had so much fun at the Multnomah County Fair this year, that Heather and I have decided it’s a can’t miss event.

Admission and hours vary wildly depending on days you attend, number of days you plan to attend, your age, whether you buy tickets in advance or at the gate, so visit the Oregon State Fair website for details (also check out special days and discounts).

Tualatin’s first Crawfish Festival took place in 1951, to honor the new VFW Hall and to take advantage of a bumper crop of crawdads in the Tualatin River. It’s been going strong ever since (barring the 1977 Tualatin Crawfish Festival riot, which almost got the festival cancelled).

Some of the crawfishy activities in store for you:

  • Friday Night Cook-Off
  • Great Music and Performers
  • Crawfish Festival Parade
  • Pancake Breakfast
  • Kids Crawfish Eating Contest
  • “Atsa My Dawg” Show
  • Adult Crawfish Eating Contest
