The match kicks off at 8pm. A live webstream will be available at PortandTimbers.com, and you can listen to the match on 750 AM The Game and La Pantera 940 AM.

El Rojo, one of Argentina’s top teams, won the Copa Sudamericana in 2010. They have never been relegated to the country’s second division, and finished the 2011 Torneo Clausura sixth overall.

Portland TimbersThe Portland Timbers host Toronto FC at Jeld-Wen Field on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 8pm. And Dave Knows is giving away a pair of tickets to the match!

The seats are in section 117 – not the Timbers Army section mind you – but rather in the west stands with a great view of the field. Two All Zone All Day TriMet bus tickets are included!

The Winner: The winner will be selected in a random drawing of all valid entries* on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at 5pm.

*The Timbers player you select does not have to be on the currently active roster, but must be on or have been on the roster this season (so Adam Moffat and Ryan Pore, for example, are valid entries).

A valid email address must be provided in the appropriate field below so that I can contact you if you win. You do not, however, have to give a real name, and you can leave the Website field blank. I will not use the email address for anything except contacting the winner. The winner will be contacted by email and ticket delivery arrangements must be made before noon on Wednesday, July 27, or the tickets will be given to someone else – so make sure to check your email!

The Timbers and West Brom have met before – just over 30 years ago! West Brom won that 1981 friendly 1-0 with a goal from midfielder Terry Summerfield.

Match Day (10-July-2011): Portland Timbers vs. Seattle Sounders

Portland TimbersThe Portland Timbers host today, for the first time in MLS league play, the Seattle Sounders at Jeld-Wen Field. Kickoff is at 1pm (not 2pm as it says on some tickets).

This decidedly unfriendly match will likely feature the loudest, most raucous crowd of the season. Prepare to see (or participate in) impressive tifo, sing until you’re hoarse and delirious, and enjoy a hard fought game – win or not win. The Timbers (5-8-3) have struggled of late, but expect them to be exceptionally prepared for this match. The Sounders (8-4-8) are in good form, but should know better than to take the Timbers lightly. In the first league matchup between these teams in May, the Timbers earned a point with a 1-1 draw at Qwest Field.

Match will be broadcast live on ESPN/ESPN Deportes, or listen in on 750 AM The Game or La Pantera 940 AM.

Operation Pitch Invasion Launches

Operation Pitch InvasionOperation Pitch Invasion, a charity dedicated to building, revitalizing, and maintaining soccer fields throughout the Portland area, has launched!

Brainchild of the 107 Independent Supporters Trust (107ist) and the Timbers Army, the inaugural project kicks off on July 16:

On July 16, we will be doing our first project — a dry-run of sorts: restoration and maintenance of existing fields at Ed Benedict Park (SE 100th Ave & Powell Blvd.). The following week, OPI will be part of 107ist’s contribution to the labor at James John Elementary School, one of the AC Portland sites. In August, OPI will do another care-and-maintenance-type project with the Portland Parks. And in the fall, we will build our first fields at a park in SE Portland. In coming years, with fuller budgets and more experience, we may do as many as 15-20 projects per year; the region isn’t running out of parks or schools with crappy fields, after all.

To volunteer initially you must be a member of the 107ist (visit the 107ist member forums to sign up), but anyone can donate and suggest future projects.
