June 4, 2010 by Dave Knows 1 Comment

See MeSee Me | See My Work, the Mt. Hood Community College Integrated Media Portfolio Show celebrating the 2010 program graduates, takes place this Wednesday, June 9th at Nemo (1875 SE Belmont), from 5pm to 8:30pm.

SEE ME | SEE MY WORK will showcase work from 18 design and 12 digital photography students. Come enjoy food, beer and wine while looking over student work and mingling with other PDX creatives. This is a chance for you to give invaluable feedback to help shape the lives of young designers (unless you’re not into that sort of thing).

There’s a preview of some of the work you’ll see at the show at the show website, and many of the students have websites too, many with portfolios, linked on the sidebar of that page.

The Mt. Hood Community College Integrated Media Program trains students in broadcasting, digital photography, graphic design, and video. For more information, visit the website: MHCCIM.com

Portland Timbers Roundup (06/04/2010)

June 4, 2010 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

TimbersThis weekend Heather and I are embarking on our first camping adventure of 2010, so unfortunately we’re going to miss this weekend’s Timbers events – don’t forget Saturday, You Are Timbers History!

And then Sunday, the Portland Timbers should be relatively well rested as they take on the Carolina Railhawks, who feature former Timber David Hayes, at PGE Park at 6pm. The Timbers have not played since last weekend’s delightful friendly against Boca Juniors.

The video below is the second “clue” to the new MLS Timbers logo to be debuted at halftime of the USA vs England World Cup match on June 12th! (Kip Kesgard has more, a the Timbers Blog at OregonLive.

And now, to the roundup . . .

Timbers looking to re-launch their season after big win; news, notes and links by Geoffrey C. Arnold at The Oregonian

The way the Timbers celebrated Rodrigo Lopez’s game-winning goal, you would have thought they had won the league championship.

Lopez was mobbed by his giddy teammates on the sideline, and it was if all the problems, worry and negativity that was growing nearly as fast as the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico during the month of May was vaporized during that moment. [more]

Timbers begin U.S. Open Cup play June 15 by Geoffrey C. Arnold at The Oregonian

The Timbers will host the Sonoma County Sol in the first round of the U.S. Open Cup play, the club announced. The Timbers will face the Sol on Tuesday, June 15 at PGE Park.

The Timbers, one of 32 clubs from lower division leagues in the first-round competition, should easily beat the Sol. [more]

Timbers Jersey Display at Nike World Headquaters by paulsepp at Dropping Timbers

We attended the Boca Junior’s practice at Nike World Headquarters last week and decided to explore the campus a bit. The campus includes many sports fields including perfect pitches, where some of the best youth teams across the US were playing in a Man U sponsored tourney. The Nike Campus is filled with bright shinny fancy things like huge office buildings, life-size bronze statues and some of the best sports memorabilia you could ever find on the planet. [read the rest for a photo gallery, including the first Nike soccer uniform – for the Portland Timbers!]

World Cup Madness – Rowdies Style by mao at Portland Timbers USL blog at The Offside

The Rowdies, well known among Timbers supporters, are hosting a major bracket challenge and called it World Cup Madness. Their goal is to enlist 100 supporters at $5 per entry with the proceeds going directly to the Timbers Army Tifo Fund. To date the Rowdies have reached 25% of their stated goal with a full week left before the games begin. [more]

And finally, a World Cup match blast from the past (2002), by Timbers player Takayuki Suzuki. Have a great weekend!

June 3: First Thursday For the Rest of Us – Bar Crawl and 7th Planet Picture Show

June 3, 2010 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

First Thursday for June 2010 is upon us, which means tons of gallery openings if you’re into that sort of thing (PDX Pipeline has, I believe, the definitive list of openings).

But if, like me, First Thursday is not your cup of tea, what is there to do? There’s no Timbers match tonight, goldarnit.

I’ve got a few suggestions:

Bar CrawlFirst Thursday Pearl District Bar Crawl

To a lot of us, First Thursday means avoid the Pearl District. But what if instead of a possible glass of wine and some grapes and cheese at stodgy art galleries, you could get a specialty cocktails at a multitude of bars? Wouldn’t that make First Thursday fun? We are in luck! [more]
