And the first events of summer 2010 begin next week.

The 8 session class begins Tuesday, June 22nd from 9:15-10:30 a.m. Steve has taught at the Chinese Garden, VA, Overlook House, and OEA. He co-hosts free weekly Saturday morning practices thru much of the year at the Chinese Garden (free entry), Washington Park Rose Garden, and the Overlook House.

Pre-registration is required.

PuppetstockAs part of Puppetstock, Mudeye Puppet Company presents Deepsy Diver on Friday, June 25th.

Come explore an underwater world with Deepsy Diver and learn how to protect our watershed! Stick around after the show to meet the puppets up close and ask questions about how they were made. $5/person

Match Day (06/17/2010): Portland Timbers vs NSC Minnesota Stars

June 17, 2010 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

TimbersThe Portland Timbers hope to latch onto the momentum they initiated with the 3-0 defeat of the Sonoma County Sol in US Open Cup play Tuesday night, as they host NSC Minnesota Stars at PGE Park this Thirsty Thursday, June 17th 2010. Kickoff is at 7pm.

The Stars (4-7-2) are a point ahead of the Timbers (3-4-4) in the standings, though they’ve played two more matches. And they have given up more goals, 19 in 13 matches, than any other team in the league. If the Timbers stop hitting the woodwork, we might just see a few goals Thursday night. Former Timber U23 player Warren Ukah suits up for the Stars, and has played in 9 games this season.

June 17: qPDX’s Alley Hector and Perry Winkle visit Morning Submission

June 16, 2010 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

qPDXqPDX‘s Alley Hector and Perry Eising (aka the lovely British/German accented Perry Winkle) will be guests on Morning Submission this Thursday, June 17th. Listen live on PDX.FM at 8am.

We’re in the midst of Pride Week 2010, so who better to talk to than the woman behind qPDX, Portland’s premier site for queer news, views and events.

Alley is looking forward to it:

I’m really hoping they’ll have one of their infamous drink tastings, seeing as surely I won’t have had enough the night before, nor will I have any the rest of the weekend. Drunk at only my 4th day of the new jobby. Sweet!

As for what we will be discussing, besides the incredibly ambiguous “Pride” is anybody’s guess. Their conversations usually consist of things like exploding cocks, neck brace organizers and bastardizing the English language.

And of course if you can’t listen live, find the recorded show a few hours after the broadcast at MorningSubmission.com and iTunes.

The Fifth Element (1997)

She is helped by ex-soldier, current-cab-driver, Korben Dallas, who is, in turn, helped by Prince/Arsenio clone, Ruby Rhod. Unfortunately, Evil is being assisted by Mr. Zorg, who seeks to profit from the chaos that Evil will bring, and his alien mercenaries.

Show is free, but there’s an entirely optional suggested donation of $5. 21 and over only, there’s a bar!

Win Free Tickets to Timbers vs. Manchester City on July 17th

June 16, 2010 by Dave Knows 41 Comments

UPDATE: The contest is over; and a winner has been selected. I will announce the winner once I have successfully contacted him or her. Thanks!

Timbers vs Man CityOn Saturday, July 17th 2010, I’ll be dressed in grey slacks and a long sleeve white shirt, probably sweating in sweltering heat, at an undisclosed location on Sauvie Island; one of my best friends is getting married. I’ve known the guy since first grade. I don’t think I can get out of it 😉

But my obligation is your gain – I have a pair of tickets I can’t use to the Portland Timbers friendly against Manchester City at Merlo Field on the campus of the University of Portland, on the same day.

Merlo Field is tiny, so as you probably already know, tickets to this match are exclusively available to season ticket holders. Behold, I am a full-season ticket holder, and I possess a pair of Game C tickets. And I want to give these two tickets to you.

The mechanics of this contest are simple:

  1. Leave a comment below* before midnight (Portland, Oregon time) on Saturday, June 26th
  2. In the comment tell us who your favorite Portland Timbers player is (a player on the roster as of the date you post your comment)
  3. On Sunday, June 27th I will randomly draw a name from the pool of commenters who followed the rules above

After the drawing I will deliver the tickets to the winner. (Hopefully at a Timbers match before July 17th, but I will Fedex or mail the tickets if necessary.)

* You do not need to use your real name when you comment, but you must leave a valid email address so that I can contact you if you win. I won’t use the email addresses for anything else. Ever. Also, don’t panic (or re-comment obsessively) if your comment does not appear instantly; the first comment per email address goes into moderation. I will try to approve them in a timely manner.

Good luck!
