Portland Timbers 2011 Jerseys, and Jet Plane, Unveiled

December 9, 2010 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

The Portland Timbers, with the help of new sponsor Alaska Airlines, unveiled the 2011 MLS jerseys today.

I was one of the lucky fans selected to attend. I brought my trusty point and shoot, which can take decent photos. But not as nice as the photos taken by photographer Steven D. Lenhart. He graciously provided the photo below of new Timbers defender Rodney Wallace modeling the 2011 secondary MLS jersey.

The MLS Timbers know how to throw a party. The unveiling took place in a 64,000 square foot Horizon Air hangar at PDX.

Happy fans were offered free beer and food! I enjoyed a Widmer Drifter myself.

Now in its 56th year, the Christmas Ship Parade begins its run on Thursday, December 9 2010, with regularly scheduled runs through December 21.

It’s not cheap, but the experience is memorable. December 8, 2010 by Dave Knows Leave a Comment

Walls of PrideThe Dill Pickle Club, Portland’s creative cultural club, has launched a project to create a guidebook to African American public art in Portland: Walls of Pride.

Walls of Pride will feature full-color photos of over a dozen works of public art. Included is a detailed map, interviews with artists Isaka Shamsud-Din and Adriene Cruz, a transcribed conversation between curator Robin Dunitz and history professor Reiko Hillyer, mural descriptions and artist biographies, and a bibliography.

The book project was inspired by the reception to the club’s November Tour of African American Public Art. For the full story, watch the video for the project at Kickstarter, and consider a pledge!
